Lord Ram has a special relationship with Uttarakhand
Lord Ram performed his last penance in Devprayag, Uttarakhand. This beautiful place is now known as a famous pilgrimage site. Devprayag is situated at the confluence of Alaknanda-Bhagirathi rivers. Devprayag Devbhoomi is one of the Panch Prayags of Uttarakhand. It is said that when King Bhagiratha persuaded Ganga to descend on earth, along with him 33 crore gods and goddesses also descended from heaven to Devprayag along with Ganga.
Sage Devsharma did penance for Lord Vishnu in Devprayag
Devprayag is situated in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. Which is at an altitude of 830 meters above sea level. The distance of Devprayag is just 70 kilometers from Rishikesh. It is said that in Devprayag itself, sage Devsharma performed severe penance for Lord Vishnu. After which Lord Vishnu had given him a boon that this place would later be named after him.
Lord Ram did his last penance here in Uttarakhand
According to mythological belief, Shri Ram performed his last penance in Devprayag itself. When Lord Rama was returning after conquering Lanka, he did penance here. It is believed that Lord Rama did penance in Devprayag to be free from the sin of killing a Brahmin. Here Lord Ram did penance sitting on a rock. Even today that stone is present here.
Ram Sevak Hanuman also came here
Along with Lord Ram, Ram’s servant Hanuman also came here. There is also Hanuman cave near the temple of Mother Ganga in Devprayag itself. There is a belief about this cave that along with Lord Ram, Ram’s servant Hanuman also came here. A large number of devotees come here to have darshan of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman. Along with this, there is also Raghunath Temple, a grand and historical temple of Lord Rama in Devprayag. Where Lord Vishnu sits in the form of Lord Rama.
