The disaster that struck Kedarnath on 16 June 2013 destroyed everything except the temple. This disaster was one of the most dreadful and terrible disasters not only in the country but in the world. Thousands of people died in this disaster. Many people went missing, whose whereabouts are unknown till date. Even today, when people talk about that disaster, they shudder. A shiver runs through their body. However, the wounds that the Kedarnath disaster caused 11 years ago are now healing. The face of Kedarpuri is changing.
Today is the 11th anniversary of the Kedarnath disaster
The soul shivers remembering the havoc that nature created in the hill districts of the state, including Kedarnath, on this day exactly 11 years ago, 16 June 2013. More than 4400 people died in the Kedarnath deluge. Kedarpuri might have started to look new, but even today when people go to Kedarnath, the wounds of the disaster become fresh. People shudder remembering them. Whenever there is heavy rain in the valley, people shudder with the pain of the terrible disaster that occurred 11 years ago.
Kedarpuri is changing after the havoc of nature
Everything was destroyed in this disaster except the temple. The footpath ahead of Rambada was also completely destroyed. Then everyone felt that Kedarpuri will not be able to be like the old one in future. But, after the disaster, Kedarpuri started to look new under the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and every year pilgrims started reaching the Dham in large numbers. 11 years after the disaster in Kedarnath, today a large number of pilgrims are reaching for darshan.
Kedarnath receives the most pilgrims among the four Dhams
Whereas a limited number of pilgrims used to reach Baba Kedar’s door before 2013, now the maximum number of people are reaching the changing form, the brightening Kedarpuri. After 2022, the temple has to be kept open for pilgrims even at night in Kedarnath. More than 20 thousand pilgrims are reaching the temple every day for darshan. Currently, the maximum number of pilgrims among the four Dhams are reaching Kedarnath Dham only for darshan.
Devotees reach Baba’s door ignoring the challenges of the walking path
In front of faith, devotees do not even see the challenges of the 16 km long walking path. Devotees from the country and abroad reach to visit Baba Kedar. Not only have the food and accommodation facilities for the pilgrims increased in the Dham, but the meditation caves developed on the hills of Kedarpuri are also attracting the attention of the country and abroad. Due to this, the faces of small and big businessmen and hoteliers in Kedar Valley are also blooming. At the same time, heli services are also being used a lot to visit Baba in Kedarnath.
Removal of Dhari Devi’s idol brought disaster in Kedarnath
The biggest reason for the destruction in Kedarnath is considered to be the displacement of Maa Dhari Devi. It is said that if Dhari Devi’s temple was not displaced, then there would have been no flood in Kedarnath. Let us tell you that Dhari Devi’s temple was situated at a place called Kaliyasur, 15 km away from Srinagar in Uttarakhand. For the construction of the dam, Dhari Devi’s idol was displaced from here at 6 pm on 16 June. Exactly two hours after this, destruction started in Kedar Valley.
Opening of the doors at an inauspicious time is also considered to be the reason
Usually the Char Dham Yatra starts with the opening of the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. That year, Akshaya Tritiya had started on 12th May in the afternoon and the auspicious time of Akshaya Tritiya was till 12:24 pm on the 13th. But the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri were opened after this auspicious time had passed. The special thing was that the time in which the journey started was the Pitru Pujan Muhurta. In this Muhurta, worship of gods and goddesses and any auspicious work is considered forbidden. Therefore, the inauspicious time is also being considered the reason for destruction.
