Be it a human or an animal, a mother is a mother. She can face any difficulty to protect her child. One such video is now going viral on social media, in which a buffalo fights with a herd of lions to save the life of her child.
For a moment, it seemed that the hunt was successful
The caption of this clip shared by Instagram user @dennis_koshal was: “Dramatic morning, all Rongai sub-adults were killing a buffalo calf, it was difficult for the mother to give up, all the members of the herd were protecting the calf.” In the scene, a lioness is seen hunting with her small cubs. Then a lion catches sight of the calf and pounces. For a moment, it seems that the hunt has been successful.
What happened next is nothing short of amazing. The calf’s mother musters up all her strength and comes back with her horns lowered and picks up the lion attacking the calf and throws it away, causing it to flee. As more lions come to attack, the single mother continues her fight. The tension mounts when the lions try to regroup – but then, the rest of the buffalo herd returns. The herd attacks the predators, forcing the lioness and her cubs to retreat and thus saving the calf.

The footage has been viewed over 61 million times, sparking a flood of reactions from viewers. Many were stunned by the buffalo’s bravery and the unity of the herd. One user commented that the mother’s “determination brought tears to their eyes”. One wrote, “This is proof that mothers never back down”, while another said, “Even lions know that a mother’s love should not be tested.”
