The villagers say that Vishhari Mata is worshipped here every year on Nag Panchami. Playing with snakes is a common thing for the people here.
Snakes are caught months in advance
Actually, a snake fair is held every year on Nag Panchami at Singhiya Ghat in Vibhutipur police station area. You will be surprised to see this. While even the bravest of people lose their senses after seeing snakes, in this fair, along with the devotees, children, young and old people are seen playing with snakes wrapped around their necks. For this, the process of catching snakes starts months in advance which continues till the day of Nag Panchami.
People perform stunts with snakes
On the day of Nagpanchami, Bhagat Ram Singh and other people perform stunts by taking the name of Mata Vishhari and holding poisonous snakes in their mouths and chanting the name of Vishhari Mata for hours. Hundreds of people reach Singhiyaghat bridge ghat of Budhi Gandak river with snakes in their hands. After entering the river here, dozens of snakes are taken out by chanting the name of Mata. During this, the devotees present on the river ghat chant the names of Nagraj and Vishdhar Mata. After the worship, the snakes are left in the forest.
The tradition has been going on for hundreds of years
Let us tell you that this fair is considered to be the famous fair of Mithila. The tradition of worshiping the snake god here has been going on for hundreds of years. Basically, Vishhara is worshipped in Gahvars here. Women do special worship of Nagdevta with the wish of increasing their lineage. On the fulfillment of the wish, on the day of Nagpanchami, Jhaap and Prasad are offered in Gahvar.
