Who is Chhathi Maiya?
In this great festival of Chhath, Chhathi Maiya and Lord Surya are worshipped. According to mythology, Chhathi Maiya is the mental daughter of Brahmadev and sister of Lord Surya. Chhathi Maiya is said to be the goddess of procreation, while Surya Dev is said to be the god of the body. It is believed in the Puranas that when Lord Brahma was creating the universe, he had divided himself into two parts. In this, one part was divided as man and the other part as nature. After this, nature also divided itself into 6 parts, one of which is the Mother Goddess. Chhathi Maiya is the sixth part of Mother Goddess. Chhathi Maiya is known as the goddess of nature and the goddess of progeny.
Lord Karthikeya is the husband
According to the Puranas, Chhathi Maiya’s husband is Lord Kartikeya. Lord Kartikeya is the first son of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati and elder brother of Ganesha and Ashoka Sundari. According to Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran, Chhathi Maiya, who appeared from the sixth part of the world or nature, is the most famous and popular among other parts.
