Birsa Munda was a young freedom fighter and leader of the tribal community. Birsa Munda belonged to the Munda tribe. He was born on 15 November 1875 in Jharkhand. Birsa started a movement called Ulgulan or The Great Tumult. During that time people called him Dharti Abba, which means father of the earth. He raised a big religious movement against the British missionaries and their conversion activities. He revolted against the religious conversion activities of Christian missionaries mainly with the help of people from the Munda and Oraon tribal communities. He has done a lot for water, forest, land and tribals.

1. Birsa Munda raised his voice against the British in a fearless manner. He joined the Sardar movement.
2. Birsa Munda started a new religion in the year 1895. Which is called Barsait. 12 subjects were selected for the propagation of this religion. The rules of this religion are said to be very strict. In this religion, one cannot consume meat, fish, bidi, cigarette, gutka, alcohol etc. Also, one cannot eat food at someone else’s place in the market. Also, plucking flowers and leaves on Thursdays is strictly prohibited. People of this religion worship nature.
3. Between 1897 and 1900, there was a war between Birsa Munda and the British. In which about 400 soldiers were involved. During that time, Khunti police station was attacked. In the war that took place on the banks of the Tanga river in 1897, the British army was defeated. However, after the defeat, the angry British arrested many leaders of the tribals.
4. During January 1900, a war also took place on the Dombadi hill. He was addressing the gathering in the same area. On the other hand, many disciples were arrested in the ongoing war. During this time, a large number of children and women also died. On 9 February 1900, Birsa Munda was also arrested in Chakradharpur. After going to jail, he breathed his last in Ranchi on 9 June 1900.
